Searchable Edo meisho zue is now on JapanKnowledge

Edo meisho zueEdo meisho zue (江戸名所図会 7 vols, 1834-36) is an illustrated guidebook about Edo and its environs.

It is completed by three generations of the Saitō (斎藤) family from Chōshū (長秋 (幸雄 Yukio) dates unknown) to his grandson Gesshin (月岑 (幸成 Yukinari) 1804-78 ) and illustrated by Hasegawa Settan (長谷川雪旦 1778-1843). It was well illustrated and filled with detailed information on the history, legends, and special products of various temples, shrines, and famous places in Edo during 1800s to 1840s.

Edo meisho zue is now available through JapanKnowledge and searchable by article titles, image titles, and name of place. Please click tab “カルチャー (culture)” on the JapanKnowledge home page and choose “江戸名所図会” from the list.
